Accreditation standards
Standards are the foundation of the accreditation program. Standards are developed to be flexible enough to apply to different facility operations and rigorous enough to safeguard patients.
The goal of the standards is to deliver safety and quality requirements that practitioners consider legitimate. Standards development will:
- reflect current practice
- incorporate best-available scientific evidence
- involve subject matter experts

Laboratory medicine
The Accreditation Standards – Laboratory Medicine are utilized to accredit facilities in the DAP core accreditation scheme. They are also used to supplement the ISO 15189 standards in the DAP ISO 15189 scheme.
These standards have been reviewed and accredited by the International Society for Quality in Health Care External Evaluation Association (ISQua EEA). Facilities participating in the DAP ISO 15189 scheme are required to obtain their own certified copy of the ISO 15189 standards.
Effective February 15, 2022, DAP accreditation standards are no longer on the website
Laboratories participating in the accreditation must contact the DAP to access the full set of DAP laboratory medicine accreditation standards.
Version 2.0 of the Laboratory Medicine Accreditation Standards will be used to survey laboratories beginning March 31, 2025.
