College statement regarding medical assistance in dying legislation
Today, Bill C-14 received royal assent by the Governor General after passing a final vote in the Senate (44-28).
Now that legislation is enacted, the provisions contained in the new legislation will take priority over the provisions contained in the College’s recently drafted standard. The College will be updating its legislative guidance to physicians over the coming days to ensure it reflects the new law and any regulations that may follow.
The College will inform registrants once such guidance has been approved by the Board.
