The amalgamation of the College of Podiatric Surgeons of BC (CPodSBC) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC) was approved by the two college boards and the minister of health based on a number of parallels in the professions. The amalgamation is being led by a Transition Steering Committee (TSC) with representatives from both colleges.
The amalgamation process is multifaceted. It will involve drafting amendments to regulations, including creating a new class of registration, appointing a board for the newly amalgamated college, moving records, conducting a regulatory and financial audit, and identifying the types of scope of practice activities performed by podiatric surgeons to ensure compliance with existing standards of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.
