Registrar’s message: assessment and management by telemedicine—crucial skills during the COVID-19 crisis

An essential part of the COVID-19 physical distancing effort is minimizing exposure in clinical settings. Registrants are encouraged, where possible and appropriate, to provide care to patients via telemedicine. The College has updated its Telemedicine practice standard and offers several important reminders regarding the appropriate use of telemedicine.

Physicians must not disclose information about COVID-19 patients―even if anonymized

The College has received several complaints about physicians disclosing information about COVID-19 cases in a number of ways—on social media, to reporters and to other patients. Even if a patient isn’t identified, pervasive social networking may reveal their identity. It is serious misconduct to share any information that may identify an individual.

The College Connector is sent to every current registrant of the College. Decisions of the College on matters of standards and guidelines are contained in this publication. The College therefore assumes that each registrant is aware of these matters. Questions or comments about this publication should be directed to communications@cpsbc.ca.
