Locums

Physicians from other jurisdictions considering locum tenens work in British Columbia must obtain registration with the College. Contact the registration department for more information at registration@cpsbc.ca.

Rules for returning locums

Returning for a locum less than six months from the last locum

  • provide a certificate of professional conduct (CPC) from the regulatory or licensing authority in each jurisdiction where the applicant has held medical licensure, dated within 60 days from the intended date of practice in BC
  • provide a CPC (or equivalent document) from each regulated profession (e.g. nursing, law, accounting, etc.), in Canada or internationally, the applicant has practised in
  • pay a re-registration fee of C$640
  • pay fees of C$150 per month

Returning for a locum between six months and one year from the last locum

  • provide a CPC from the regulatory or licensing authority in each jurisdiction where the applicant has held medical licensure, dated within 60 days from the intended date of practice in BC
  • provide a CPC (or equivalent document) from each regulated profession (e.g. nursing, law, accounting, etc.), in Canada or internationally, the applicant has practised in
  • pay a re-registration fee of C$640
  • pay fees of C$150 per month

Returning for a locum between one and three years from the last locum

  • provide one reference
  • update pages 1 and 3 of the application for registration form
  • pay a re-registration fee of C$640
  • pay fees of C$150 per month
  • update a consent to a criminal record check form if it is five years old

Returning for a locum three years or more from the last locum

  • complete the application for registration process
  • pay a re-registration fee of C$640
  • pay applicable licence renewal fees

You will also have to fill out the online Annual Licence Renewal Form once per year.
