Postgraduate

The faculty of medicine at the University of British Columbia offers family medicine and 65 specialty and sub-specialty postgraduate training programs. All training programs are accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the College of Family Physicians of Canada. The duration of training varies from two years for family medicine to four to seven years for other specialties and sub-specialties. All postgraduates in BC training programs are registered with the College.

Class of registration

Residents

A registrant who is enrolled in postgraduate training in the faculty of medicine, University of British Columbia.

Residents-Elective

A registrant who is enrolled in postgraduate training in an accredited program outside of British Columbia.

Fellows

A registrant who is pursuing further postgraduate training in his/her specialty or sub-specialty.

Trainees

A registrant who is pursuing further postgraduate training in his/her specialty or sub-specialty but does not meet the requirements for registration as a postgraduate fellow.
