Read by QxMD (app)

Discover new research, read topic reviews and search PubMed for articles relevant for your practice. Read by QxMD is an app that is compatible with iPad, iPhone, Android and desktop computers. For full access to the College’s journal subscriptions, set "Institutional Access" to College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

Setting institutional access to articles

  1. Download the app, Read by QxMD, from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Open the Read app.
  3. Sign up by creating a personal account.
  4. Under Content Settings, set institutional access to "College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia."
  5. Choose "Manual Login" when prompted.
  6. Downloads of College-subscribed articles will prompt a College login request (once per session).

Need articles for which Read has no access?

  1. Use the "Request Copy" link to email the record to the College library. Library staff will locate a copy and email it to you. Please remember to provide your name so we can identify you as the requestor.

  2. Sign in either by creating a personal account or using your existing account.
  3. Under My Profile, change institutional access to "College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia."

Using the email button, email the record to the College library at medlib@cpsbc.ca. Library staff will locate a copy and email it to you. Please remember to provide your name so we can identify you as the requestor.

Databases - Medicine and Health

MEDLINE - The premier medical database. Covers medicine and the life sciences with more than 26 million journal articles. 1946 to present online. The College library offers three interfaces to this essential resource.

CINAHL - Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature. Contains journal articles, book chapters, and theses. Includes rehabilitation science and psychosocial medicine. 1982 to present.

PsycInfo - Psychology. Citation database with journal articles, book chapters, books, technical reports, and citations for dissertations. Historical articles dating back to the 17th century to present.

Systematic Reviews

ACP Journal Club -  Best new evidence for internal medicine.
Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews - Regularly-updated systematic reviews from the Cochrane Collaboration. Includes completed reviews and review protocols.
Clinical Evidence - Summaries of the current state of knowledge about the prevention and treatment of medical conditions based on the best evidence from systematic reviews, RCTs and other studies when appropriate.
Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) Reviews - Combines the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, ACP Journal Club, Health Technology Assessment, NHS Economic Evaluation Database, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Methodology Register, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials into a single fully-searchable database.
PubMed Health - Clinical effectiveness research reviews for the clinician and consumer. Contains easy-to-read summaries as well as technical reports.
