HPOA Updates to Practice Standards and Professional Guidelines
CPSBC’s practice standards and professional guidelines have been recently revised to align with the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA). This includes updating terminology (for example, replacing “registrant” with “licensee”) and correcting references to ensure they point to the appropriate sections of the new legislation. This has resulted in several title changes:
• Blood-borne Viruses in Registrants has become: Blood-borne Viruses in Licensees
• Ending the Patient-registrant Relationship has become: Ending the Patient Relationship
• Primary Care Provision in Walk-in, Urgent Care and Multi-registrant Clinics has become Primary Care Provision in Walk-in, Urgent Care and Multi-licensee Clinics
As part of CPSBC’s restructuring under the HPOA, several program policies have now become guidelines:
• Diagnostic Facilities (was previously a Diagnostic Accreditation Program policy)
• Medical/Surgical Office Procedures (was previously a NHMSFAP policy)
• Non-Hospital Medical Surgical Facilities (was previously a NHMSFAP policy)
• Writing Prescriptions
