Remembering Siem Te’ta-in (Shane Pointe), Coast Salish Knowledge Keeper

CPSBC is offering its deepest condolences to the Musqueam Nation on the passing of Siem Te'ta-in (Shane Pointe) on April 8, 2026.

Siem Te’ta-in, who was also known as Sulksun, was a Coast Salish Knowledge Keeper who was instrumental in providing advice and guidance to CPSBC staff during the development of the Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility, and Anti-Racism practice standard. He also conducted many ceremonies grounded in Coast Salish Protocols for BC health regulators, including the joint apology and commitment to action ceremony in July 2021, the harmonized cultural safety practice standard ceremony in May 2022, the CPSBC board blanketing ceremony in June 2022, and the passing of the leadership torch in December 2023.

Siem Te’ta-in generously shared his knowledge and gentle sense of humour, and approached reconciliation with kindness, patience and thoughtfulness. CPSBC is grateful for his guidance and how he held us accountable to our commitment to stopping racism against Indigenous people in the health-care system.
