The multi-source feedback (MSF) component of the PPEP consists of different survey tools (questionnaires) which are sent to the physician’s medical colleagues, non-physician co-workers and patients, supporting a team approach to care. The objective of the MSF is to gather multiple points of view about the physician’s non-clinical competencies, such as those contained in the CanMEDS Competency Framework, e.g. communication, collaboration, management, and professionalism.
The MSF component of PPEP is based on the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta’s Physician Achievement Review (PAR) Program first implemented in 1999. Researchers at the University of Calgary conducted studies to establish the psychometric soundness of the instruments. The body of evidence indicates that the tools measure what they purport to measure and that the results are meaningful to physicians.¹

Pivotal Research Inc. is responsible for the administration of the MSF component on behalf of the College and has signed a formal agreement to ensure that confidentiality is maintained throughout the MSF process. Individual questionnaire responses are anonymized and identities are not disclosed to the College.
