Continuing competency requirements

All licensees must comply with continuing professional development (CPD) requirements.

Licensees are required to enrol in CPD programs provided by either the

  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada,
  • College of Family Physicians of Canada,
  • Collège des médecins du Québec, or
  • College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

Requirement for physicians and surgeons

Physician and surgeon licensees must enrol in and comply with CPD requirements in order to renew their licence each year.

CPSBC considers the following CPD programs acceptable:

  • Mainpro+ (through the College of Family Physicians of Canada)
  • Maintenance of Certification Program (through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada)
  • Proof of enrolment in and compliance with the Collége des médecins du Québec’s CPD requirements

Requirement for podiatric surgeons

Podiatric surgeon licensees must enrol in and comply with CPD requirements in order to renew their licence each year.
