Reactivating licence to practise
There is a list of requirements that a licensee must complete to reactivate their licence.
Email licensing@cpsbc.ca approximately six weeks prior to the intended start date of practice in BC to obtain the list of requirements.
Prior to returning to active practice, licensees must reach out to the Health Monitoring Program to discuss their specific requirements, diagnosis and scope of practice.
There are requirements for former licensees and those who limited their practice and wish to return to full, active practice.
Email licensing@cpsbc.ca for the list requirements to reactivate the licence or broaden scope of practice.
Clinical currency requirement
Minimum 960 hours in the past three years
Licensees taking time away from practice should consider their clinical currency. Physicians and surgeons licensed by CPSBC for independent practice are considered current for clinical practice when they have practised within their scope of their certified training and recent experience for at least 24 weeks in the preceding three years.
Research, teaching, administration and medical regulation do not constitute clinical practice.
Continuing professional development requirements
Licensees are expected to comply with part 6-10 of the CPSBC Bylaws by being enrolled in the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the Collège des médecins du Québec’s continuing professional development programs.
