UBC visiting elective
All UBC visiting student electives are on hold for the 2022/23 academic year
The hold is in response to the COVID-19 public health emergency. The web page will be updated as more information becomes available. It is anticipated that applications for electives will start being accepted by the College within the next few months.
UBC visiting student elective
Visiting student electives across Canada are scheduled through the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) Student Portal.
Visiting medical students must enrol in the UBC Visiting Student Elective Program (VSEP) to complete an elective in BC before applying for registration with the College.
Recognized medical schools
Applicants must have a medical degree from:
- a medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools which includes the Canadian sponsor note at the time of program completion; or
- a school of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation; or
- a Canadian or US medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical School
How to apply
Applicants will have to complete an application form, pay fees and submit supplementary documentation as part of the application process.
Completed applications must be submitted to the College six weeks prior to the anticipated start date. Failure to meet this deadline may result in a delayed start to the elective.
Medical students cannot begin their elective until their licence has been issued.
