Assessments conducted by PEP
Quality improvement approach
CPSBC recognizes that all licensees are dedicated to providing the highest standard of care. The pursuit of quality is a continuous process. Quality improvement focuses on a culture of reflection, learning, and continual practice improvement to strengthen patient care. Under Practice Enhancement Program (PEP), there are several assessments intended to support our licensees’ quality improvement.

Participant selection
PEP recognizes everyone’s practice is unique. Different licensees and their practices benefit from different assessment approaches. There are several types of assessments conducted by PEP:
Licensees are selected through specific criteria aimed at facilitating quality improvement in clinical practice. Participation in any of the assessments is not related to complaints or disciplinary matters in any way.
Peer or self-directed assessments are aimed primarily at the individual licensee’s professional practice, although there may be some overlap with how an office or clinic operates.
Separate from peer or self-directed assessments, a clinical office may be selected for an office assessment or medical device reprocessing assessment at any time. These assessments focus on aspects of the office environment.
Frequency of peer and self-directed assessments
Licensees are eligible for re-selection any time after their previous assessment. Re-selection is based on practice attributes or random selection and generally will occur 3-10 years after the previous assessment. Most licensees participate in PEP assessments several times over their career.
