CPSBC recognizes that all licensees are dedicated to providing the highest standard of care. The pursuit of quality is a continuous process. Quality improvement focuses on a culture of reflection, learning, and continual practice improvement to strengthen patient care. 

The Practice Enhancement Program (PEP) includes several assessments that support licensees’ quality improvement.

Medical Record Keeping 101

Medical Record Keeping 101 is a 15-minute online course for licensees. This introductory course provides licensees with the fundamental legal and regulatory requirements of medical record keeping with a review of CPSBC practice standards, CMPA advice, and MSC regulations. This course is accredited by UBC CPD for CPFC Mainpro+® credits and RCPSC MOC credits.

Medical Record Keeping 201

Medical Record Keeping 201 is a 20-minute online course for licensees. This course focuses on the essentials of good medical records, including how to avoid common deficiencies, use a SOAP-like format, and maintain a cumulative patient profile (CPP). This course is accredited by UBC CPD for CPFC Mainpro+® credits and RCPSC MOC credits.

Medical Record Keeping for Family Physicians (webinar)

The Medical Record Keeping for Family Physicians course is a four-hour interactive virtual session led by two family practice facilitators. It is designed to support physicians in maintaining appropriate documentation in patient charts. Case-based examples and simulated patient encounters are used to demonstrate the practice of effective clinical record keeping.

Medical Record Keeping for Psychiatrists (webinar)

The Medical Record Keeping for Psychiatrists course is a 4.5-hour interactive virtual session led by two psychiatrist facilitators. It is primarily directed at psychiatrists in solo or community-based practice. The course is delivered in an interactive format using case-based examples and simulated patient encounters to demonstrate the practice of effective clinical record keeping.
