Associate physician
The associate physician class of licensure permits a physician with medical training, acceptable to the College, who is not eligible for any other class of registration to work under supervision in accredited structured team-based care.

The program must be accredited before an associate physician can be employed to work there.
Who can apply for accreditation?
Structured programs that provide team-based care are eligible to apply for accreditation.
Examples:
- surgical programs
- neonatal intensive care units
- intensive care units
- cancer agency programs
How to apply for accreditation
Health authorities (or equivalent organizations) seeking additional information on eligible clinical programs and program accreditation can email registration-assessments@cpsbc.ca.
College approval and program accreditation are required prior to the commencement of practice for associate physicians. The program must address all outstanding requirements identified in the initial accreditation assessment before employing the associate physician(s) for their program. Associate physician registration is cancelled if the program fails to meet ongoing accreditation requirements.
